Created and styled the ability to reply to a comment and engage in a discussion.

The problem(s)

Our application was having some issues engaging users within the platform to communicate with each other.

How might we encourage our users to share or exchange information, news, or ideas by participating collectively in the platform?

Proposed solution(s)

Studies done by our team showed that the success of a team in the platform is not so much about the data that they input but much more about their engagement around the data.

After brainstorming ideas to find the right design that would match Glidr’s app, we decided to create a way to reply to a comment, and mention people.

Solving the problem

Research showed that this would encourage more the conversations between users and it would give them the opportunity to participate all together in dialogue. After my investigation to find the right design, I presented it to the engineering director and after getting the necessary feedback we also came up with the idea of adding a “thumbs up” to like the comments and also to be able to know by who it was liked and how many likes were received.

Our design showed that users were  able to have a reply function to each comment that simplifies the conversation with all the participants, at the same time liking the comments emphasizes the points in these conversations, which is really important between a team and in the mentor/student relationship.

The Challenge

The obstacle that we had for some time before understanding the problem, was that we had a false impression and knowledge about the way our users engaged in conversations. This was a challenge because having wrong information can distract and avoid further investigation and research until it is too late. In this case it wasn't too late but it took extra time to come to the final result.

What I learned

Because of this project, we realized the value of engagement. We thought the quality of data was more important. But this showed us that the most successful teams were the ones that engage more with the data even if they had less data.

My role

I was the sole UX/UI designer for a seven year old company with customers around the world including  government, top universities, enterprise and startups. I was responsible for the project, while collaborating with the rest of the team on ideation.
